Let’s take a look at those comfort features first, as they‘re undoubtedly the things that can make or break a passenger’s first impression. Mercedes-Benz designed this coach with an emphasis on comfortable long distance travel.
PASSENGER COMFORT
The key to this is ergonomics, and the seats have been designed to ensure that passengers can achieve a lasting relaxed seating position with plenty of support for their back. Intuitive adjustment controls allowed for flexibility, while the elegantly styled armrests ensure they can rest in comfort. Passengers’ heads are also ably supported comfort head restraints, which increase the backrest height by 40 mm and feature stepless upward adjustment by up to 85 mm to consequently ideally match passengers' individual body sizes. The side pieces of the head restraints are also adjustable and hence passengers' heads are ideally supported during on-board naps like in a cosy wing chair.
Extra features such as seat numbers, footrests, tinted windows and magazine nets also allow you to be confident that passengers get everything they expect from a coach journey. When it gets dark, overhead lighting ensures they can carry on with their activities – if the luxuriously comfortable seats haven’t already sent them to sleep, of course.
Like the sleek exterior of the coach, the interior is designed to look chic and inviting. The seats are covered in an elegantly refined fabric, complete with piped edges, while the floor is covered with soft ribbed carpet and the windows adorned with thick curtains. With a height of 2.01 metres, even the tallest passengers will be able to navigate around the coach in comfort.
Other standard coach essentials are also present, particularly the on-board toilet that ensures you can travel as far as you need to without having to make comfort stops for passengers. There is also a large fridge and server area to allow your colleagues to serve refreshments on the go, or simply allow passengers to grab the essentials when you need them.
No matter what the weather's like outside – in the Tourismo your passengers will always enjoy pleasant temperatures. This is thanks to convector heating for cold days along with a powerful air conditioning system for when the sun is shining. In terms of entertainment, there is a comprehensive audio and video system (including DVD/CD player), linked to passenger compartment speakers, which can easily be operated by your tourguide. There is also a microphone integrated into the driver’s seat to make announcements easy.
Although the interior is roomy, there is also a vast storage space on the bottom layer of the coach which can safely accommodate all 55 passengers’ luggage – no matter how much they bring!

Mercedes-Benz has an excellent track record in safety, having invented features such as ABS and ESP which are now used as standard in cars and coaches worldwide. The safety philosophy is evident in every aspect of the Tourismo we have for hire, including that electronic-pneumatic brake control EBS, which substantially reduces the stopping distance by activating the brakes more quickly and precisely. It also has acceleration skid control (ASR), which provides additional safety by minimising the spinning of the drive wheels when the vehicle accelerates.
Additional features include the Lane Assistant (SPA) and the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS). While the SPA warns the driver - by means of seat vibration - of an unintended crossing of the lane markings, the AEBS reduces the danger of driving into slow-moving vehicles or stationary obstacles ahead. Improved handling safety also comes courtesy of the directional stability from the suspension and the smooth steering which are a result of the independent front axle suspension. Should the worst happen, our Tourismo Touring also has partition walls, grab rails and reinforced materials which absorb the energy during impact or if the vehicle overturns.
Another essential factor in safety, however, is driver comfort, which has been taken care of thanks to the ergonomic driver's workstation. Here, the driver has comfortable access to all controls and a perfect overview of all the instruments. They also benefit from an air sprng seat with integrated head restraint, an adjustable steering column, personal stowage space and a roller bling on the windscreen to shield them from glare. More safety through better visibility all round is also guaranteed by the wide-angle exterior mirrors.
